I have never really been a football fan. As a matter of fact, I am still puzzled at the love of this sport by so many people, guys especially. Some one once told me "If you want to know how much your boyfriend loves you, turn off the TV during a World Cup football match."I should probably give that a thought *LOL*
Regardless of my lackadaisical attitude towards the sport *no judgements please* I have to admit that a lot of lessons can be drawn from it.
There were lots of tears and disappointment as Germany beat Brazil 7 goals to 1. However, the match taught me some indispensable lessons that I think is very critical to life.
1. Never Build Your Life Around Anybody!
At the beginning of the world cup, the Brazilian team seamed to consist of one person - Neymar da Silva. He was Brazil's football sweetheart and his cuteness won the hearts of so many females all over the world. Unfortunately, Neymar suffered a serious injury to the spine during one of the matches, making it impossible for him to play in the match against Germany. The team had been so dependent on Neymar since the inception of the World Cup that his absence greatly affected their performance. Their hero was gone and they had to contend with a force much stronger and more calculated than they were. So lesson 1! Never build your life around anybody or anyone. No one can guarantee your success except yourself and God. Don't depend on anybody for your success in life. You follow the rules of success and you will see it submitting to you. Don't let your dependence on a person take your eyes away from your goal, which leads me to lesson 2.
2. Never Loose Focus of Your Goal
The Brazilian team made the worse mistake by perceiving their match against Germany as a counter-attack. They took the injury of their most valued player too far and played with the intention of avenging Neymar. Talk about loosing focus 100%. The Germans of course were smart enough to know when to keep their cool and remain focused on the goal - winning the match. On the contrary, the Brazilian team were veiled with emotions. They allowed their allegiance to da Silva becloud their senses.
They allowed emotions get the better of them wearing Neymar's hats, leaving an empty hanger in the dressing room in his honour and clinging to his shirt while singing the National anthem. Their focus was in the wrong place; you are out there to play football and you must not think of the scale all until the game is over. The same applies to us in our daily life. Never loose sight of your goals in life. Remain focused. Keep your head in the game. There will be challenges, obstacles, temptations, things that will want to make you derail from your purpose, but do not allow it. Make your choices and decisions with your goal in mind. Again I repeat NEVER LOOSE FOCUS!
3. Don't Dwell on Past Achievements: Football is what Brazil is most proud of. They have produced several great players like Neymar da Silva, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Roberto Calos and Rivaldo. They have more than 800 professional clubs and export their players to top leagues in Europe. Even with all these, the Brazilian team could not mobilize its players to win the match against Germany. They were so confident in their past achievements and the successes recorded by their players represented in various clubs. Past achievements do not determine future success. Don't dwell on what you have achieved in the past rather always strive to achieve more. Strive to be better than you were yesterday. Don't get too comfortable with your previous feats. Make yourself your biggest competitor.
With this few points of mine, I hope I have been able to convince you and not confuse you that football is not a bad sport after all. *wide smile*
