Diary Of an Overworked Nigerian Londoner!

So I started work in the city this week. Other girls dream of being make-up artist, beauty pageant queens, business owners but not me! I want to work in an office and become a CEO but you don't just wake up and become a CEO, you have to start from the bottom. Literally. So I'm in the city of London working for an amazing company trying to achieve the dream. I'm sure you are thinking well that sounds simple and boring but I assure you, it is not.

This is the big leagues diary!!!! This is the majors! I'm playing office politics now! I'm in the Hunger Games of the corporate world! The Game of Thrones of corporate society. Okay maybe it's not that deep but you get my point. My life just got real. I'm a working girl in a big city that never sleeps. So the first couple of days have been uneventful, well not entirely. There's been some "events" and I'm about to give you the scoop.

So this morning, I got to work at 6am. Now as a Nigerian this may not be weird but as a City Londoner who just started work, it's kinda creepy. I took the earliest train while it was still dark and as you can imagine there where some VERY interesting characters on the train. There was this group of igbo boys who got on the train with me. Well one of them looked me over thoroughly. I mean, he took his time to check me out and then licked his lips. Now this was conflicting for me for 3 reasons.

One as a woman I love to be admired so on that level I was like "yeah boy bow down" Two, I have a boyfriend and I'd be mad if some chick was checking him out in that creepy pervert way and Three I am a feminist. Feel free to roll your eyes but being this means that every time a guy checks me out on the street or whistles at me or pays me attention in that way I feel like I have to be upset and violated about the "harassment". So there's a conflict between my feminine wants and my desire to rebel against the patriarchy. Anyway these guys went on to later disturb the lovely citizens of London who were unfortunate enough to also get on that train at 5 freaking am!!!

Anyway, I got to work safely and did my thing. PS. I'm in a long distance relationship so I need to gist you about that. Oh diary! I cant lie, I love my life right now. I mean it's not all roses but the guns ain't so bad (that's a guns and roses reference). Anyway I gotta go. I'll gist you more when I have more so stay tuned.

Kind Regards
Oluwafikayo M. Akeredolu
