Hey guyz. Its a new month! Whoop! whoop!!. Hope August was very kind to you. I pray September will be a productive and favourable month for us all, Amen!!
We are slowly approaching the end of the year and this is the season where wedding bells are at their loudest. #Asoebibella and Bella Naija won't even allow us hear the end of it; with them constantly featuring weddings that make us believe that all hope is not lost as the perfect fairy tale wedding still exists.
However, while we celebrate the lavish weddings with all form of luxury displayed in utmost grandeur, we must not forget the reason behind taking that bold step to say "I do". I have noticed that so much work and planning is put into wedding preparations than marriage preparations.
Brides are so caught up with how their make-up will be done, their wedding gowns, the wedding cake, the reception hall, the cars, souvenirs and the list goes on and on. In a moment of extreme happiness, they forget that all the aforementioned will last for just a day while the marriage lasts for a life time. Bearing that in mind, which should be given more attention, the wedding or the marriage?
The wedding is a prelude to the main thing - the marriage. I am in no way castigating luxurious weddings *Infact I'ld love to have one..wide smile*, neither am I connoting that we shouldn't plan adequately for our wedding, all I am saying is the long term goal (marriage) should be given more priority than the short term goal (wedding). As one woman of God put it 'You only wear your wedding clothes once, after that get ready to wear work clothes" because girl, marriage takes a whole lot of work to keep it together.
There are so many unhappy marriages today. We are witnessing a lot of divorce cases and for those who can't bear the stigma, are forced to endure whatever they are passing through in their marriage. They end up enduring their marriage instead of enjoying it.
Marriage is more than the wedding. It transcends all the glamour that is displayed on the wedding day. Marriage is serious business. If couples internalize all they are being taught during the marriage classes held before the wedding takes place, then the situation of most marriages wouldn't be what it is today.
Banky W said "Most people have an unhealthy attitude towards marriage and a healthy attitude towards weddings". Seems Banky's bald head aint for nothing after all *the guy is smart.hehehehehe* So let's check our attitude towards marriage. Understand that it requires God, commitment, sacrifice, compromise, love, honesty, truth, sincerity, communication, openess, maturity, and other factors to make a happy marriage.
Check you attitude towards marriage. Are you more concerned about your wedding day than the rest of your life? It's time for a reality check people. Let's get it right. I'm also talking to myself as I write this post because a wrong attitude towards marriage and a lack of understanding of what marriage entails can lead to a life-time of unhappiness.
